The Embers to headline beach music festival September 12

The The Embers will headline the Northern Neck Beach Music Festival September 12 on Town Hill in Colonial Beach.

WESTMORELAND—The third Northern Neck Beach Music Festival will be held September 12 on Town Hill, Colonial and Washington Avenues, in Colonial Beach. The fun will begin at noon with music, shag dance lessons and a dance contest.

“We always have a ton of fun and a great turnout,” said co-chairman Joyce Gunderson.  “Colonial Beach is a natural venue for beach music!”

DJ Craig Jennings, host of WWER’s Beach Breeze and Grooves radio show, will get the afternoon started. Feature attraction band will take the stage followed by The Embers.

Vendors will offer food and beverages, including beer and wine, for purchase.

Originating in the Carolinas, “beach music” is associated with The Carolina Shag, a style of swing dance that debuted around 1946. New, original beach music is still produced and enjoyed—particularly in the coastal regions of the Southeastern US.

Hosted by the Colonial Beach Community Foundation (CBCF), proceeds will go toward the foundation’s beautification fund.

“As Colonial Beach attracts more visitors, residents and business owners we realize the need to create and maintain an attractive environment,” said co-chairman and vice president of organizational impact Cathy Bokman. “People want a ‘cute’ town.”

Rent a tent and enter the “Best Dressed Tent” contest. Decorate a rented tent for a chance to win a free tent for next year’s festival. Tent rentals are $250 and include two admission tickets.

Tickets are $45 each. Purchase tickets are www.nnbeachmusic.org, or at the gate the day of the event.

The festival will be held rain or shine (no refunds). Bring ID, dancing shoes and a chair. No outside food or beverages. Sponsorships, VIP tickets and lodging packages are available by contacting beachmusiccbva@gmail.com.
