NORTHUMBERLAND—Registration is open for the Northern Neck Young Life (NNYL) Superhero Fun Run from 8 a.m.- noon September 21 at Northumberland High School, 201 Academic Lane, Heathsville. The run is open to ages 5-18.
The fee is $5 for individuals or $15 per team of four. Sign up at https://va241.younglife.team/northern-neck-younglife-fall-fun-run.
Proceeds will benefit NNYL. Young Life staff and volunteers help teens find meaning and purpose as they run the race of life, according to Jeanne Hickey of NNYL.
Participants should come dressed as their favorite superheroes to “zoom in” or walk around the school track, stopping at game stations hosted by churches and the Northern Neck Christian School, said Hickey. There also will be prizes and awards.
Registration on the day of the run will begin at 8 a.m. The run for ages 5-13 will be held from 9-10 a.m.; and for ages 13-18, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow each run.
Sponsors include Ingram Bay Construction, Napier Realty, Midnight Sun Charters and Smith Point Marina.
The fun run is designed to raise awareness of NNYL’s presence in the community and to help raise the funds necessary to keep the program up and running, said Hickey.
Over a decade ago, community members brought Young Life to Northumberland County. They partnered with churches and since then, NNYL staff and volunteers have engaged teens, parents and the community and have established a year-round program that includes bi-monthly meetings for middle (WyldLife) and high school students (Young Life).
Young Life’s properties and camps stretch worldwide, offering youth an opportunity to escape the pressures of everyday life, have fun with friends and hear the message of God’s love in terms they can understand, said Hickey. Donald Wayne Bazemore Jr. is NNYL’s staff associate.
