Why does Friday seem to take so long to arrive, but the weekend goes by so quickly?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n
And, have you ever noticed that it seems to take longer to get some place that you really want to be, like the Rivah; while the trip home seems to go much quicker?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n

These are conflicts of \u201chere\u201d and \u201cthere\u201d\u2014 problems caused by anticipating goals, be they good or bad.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u201d is the goal, where you want to be. \u201cHere\u201d is where you are.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The \u201chere\u00a0and there conflict\u201d is also evident in time goals \u2014 \u201cnow and then.\u201d For instance, Friday or vacation comes so slow, and your time \u201cthere\u201d is over too fast.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u201d always seems to be further away than it is, especially when you really anticipate getting there.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hold the thoughts<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Even if \u201cthere\u201d is good, after you\u2019ve been \u201cthere\u201d for a while it begins to feel like \u201chere,\u201d then it\u2019s time to go \u201cthere,\u201d again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The cycle doesn\u2019t end unless you make it stop. And some people are only happy a short time \u201chere,\u201d then they want to be \u201cthere\u201d\u2014until they are there\u2014then it\u2019s time to again go somewhere . . . anywhere. Let me out of\u00a0here!<\/span><\/p>\n

This cycle springs from the hope that things will be better \u201cthere.\u201d And they will be, for a while. Then it\u2019s time to go. Again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Even dogs want to go \u201cthere,\u201d and make the daily rounds and socialize. In nature, movement is necessary to find food and to stay alive. And from the way humans have created excuses to move around, it\u2019s still essential to our lives. How many forms of entertainment involve movement? Just about all of them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finding contentment\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

It\u2019s almost impossible to just sit on a front porch and enjoy the view, if something is bothering you. You can\u2019t enjoy being \u201chere\u201d if your mind is \u201cthere.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s easier to stay on the porch if you want less. Chasing more of everything wears you down. The farther you look for happiness outside of yourself, the farther away it is.<\/span><\/p>\n

Life is a series of goals. It seems we\u2019re always working towards the next thing\u2014 making the team, graduating from school, getting married, buying a house, having children, working towards retirement.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s good to have something to look forward to, so long as the future doesn\u2019t invade the present.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Remember, if you anticipate the future too much you ruin the chance to enjoy the moment \u2014 the\u00a0here\u00a0and now. You will get so excited you can\u2019t sit still. And, then it\u2019s goodbye to the front porch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Commitments\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Have you ever known people who, when you\u2019re trying to talk to them, look like they\u2019re some place else.\u00a0 They\u2019re not \u201chere\u201d in their mind; they\u2019re already \u201cthere,\u201d working towards a goal, wanting that goal to be completed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
