Sagan to deliver oyster discussion

The Steamboat Era Museum (SEM) Second Saturday Speaker Series will continue February 10, with Jennifer Sagan of the Friends of the Rappahannock. The lecture will be held from 2-3 p.m. at SEM, 150 King Carter Drive, Irvington.

Sagan will speak on the fascinating world of the eastern oyster. Her talk will delve into the sustainability of these remarkable creatures and shed light on the various restoration methods employed to rebuild their population, said SEM executive director Gus Kasper.

Attendees can look forward to an insightful overview of initiatives such as the oyster shell recycling program, spat on shell production, seed oysters, educational programs and the valuable partnerships that contribute to this crucial ecological restoration effort, said Kasper.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at steamboateramuseum.org or at the door.
