As our season opening approaches at Deltaville Maritime Museum (DMM) and Holly Point Point Nature Park, I always look forward to bringing you up to date and invite you all to our kick-off event of our opening weekend — the Shrimp and Barbecue Dinner and Dance, which is set for 5-9 p.m. Friday, April 26.
After having moved our opening weekend into May for several years to accommodate other area events, I am happy to announce we are now back to our original opening weekend for our premier event. Advance tickets are $35 per person through April 21 and $40 afterwards and at the door. Members should have received their discounted invitations by early April.
Everybody’s favorite saxophone player, Peyton Brabrand, will be playing 5-6 p.m. for our social hour and the Ray Pittman Trio will take the stage for dancing at 7 p.m. Tickets to the dinner and dance are limited, so please, get yours early.
This year we are happy to announce that with the exception of DMM’s proprietary “Kickin’ Chowder” all the barbecue, coleslaw, ribs and buns will be supplied fresh by the Galley Restaurant in Deltaville. J&W Seafood will supply the spiced shrimp.
Those of you who are members can save $5/ticket on your tickets bought in sets of four with your membership, you also are eligible for discounts on “Groovin’ in the Park,” free museum admission and gift shop discounts. Memberships also make a great gift year round. Truly, it’s a gift that keeps on giving.
To encourage new members, this year, if you are not already a member, you can get one year free family membership when you purchase a four-ticket package at $150. It still saves $10 off the door price and you get all the other perks of a DMM membership, including access to Groovin’ advance ticket packages.
We are now in our 22nd year at DMM and, I sincerely believe, when you come out and see all our improvements to the museum, Trails Boat Shop, waterfront park, waterfront stage, tea house and the nature trails you will be impressed. All possible, thanks to your donations!
We have come a long way since our founding in 2002, and have done it all with community, our staff and volunteers help and support. We can and will continue to do our collective best to develop into both a major player in education, archives, living history and … a just plain fun gathering point for our unique maritime community. Visitors from everywhere are welcome. Please share us with your friends.
The season opens! Gather your friends and family and all come out to our opening weekend celebrations, dinner dances, Groovin’ concerts, markets, festivals and all the other “fun stuff.”
DMM’s official Saturday, April 27 opening day line-up includes a classic car show, Holly Point Farmers Market, the Modeler’s Guild show and the first Groovin’ in the Park concert.
Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park, a volunteer, all-donation, nonprofit organization, is located in Deltaville at 287 Jackson Creek Road. To get to the museum and park, follow General Puller Highway (Route 33) east through Deltaville and turn right across from the Chris Mart Citgo convenience store. The park is open dawn to dusk daily. DMM encourages boat and maritime equipment donations to help fund its operations.
