Registration is open for the 16th annual Dream Fields Spanish Mackerel Fishing Tournament on Saturday, August 10.
With some $5,400 in prizes to be awarded, the tournament includes overall winners and categories for junior, lady and special anglers, according to director Amy Forrester. Registration is $200 per boat.
There will be a $2,500 first prize based on a 60 boat entry with $1,000 for second place, $750 for third, $500 for fourth and $250 for fifth. A $200 prize will be awarded to a junior, lady and special angler. Blue Ridge Bank has sponsored a $25,000 prize for any angler breaking the state Spanish mackerel record.
Weigh-in host Chesapeake Boat Basin and Gilman Heating, Cooling and Plumbing are major sponsors.
Proceeds from the Dream Fields Spanish Mackerel Fishing Tournament will benefit Lancaster County Little League and Dream Fields.
According to Forrester, registrations will be accepted until a captain’s meeting at 7 p.m., August 9, at Dream Fields, 1385 Irvington Road, Kilmarnock. However, she urges everyone to register early. There also will be a Calcutta at the captain’s meeting.
