Middlesex County Woman’s Club bread-making class to focus on cinnamon buns, raisin swirl bread

Participants in last year’s Middlesex County Woman’s Club bread-making class include, front, from left, Nancy Gainer, Meridee Hansen, Instructor Vera England; and back, same order, Cate Ogden, George DeVries, Page Wittcamp and Sue Warner.

The Middlesex County Woman’s Club’s (MCWC) eighth annual Bread-Baking Class is slated for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17 at the MCWC clubhouse (the Middlesex colonial courthouse) at 210 Virginia St. in Urbanna. This year, the class is focusing on cinnamon buns. Participants can choose to make either cinnamon buns or cinnamon raisin swirl bread, along with one loaf of white bread.

This will be a hands-on class, so be prepared to stir, squish, knead, roll, and pound and to immerse your hands in warm, gooey dough! While participants’ dough rises, they will share a light lunch of their demonstration loaves and soup brought by volunteers. Each participant will take home two loaves of almost-ready bread to finish baking at home.

Ingredients will be supplied, but participants will be given a list of supplies (bowls, baking pans) that they will need for the class. A fee of $45 will cover lunch and the cost of ingredients (which has increased since last year!) with the remainder a donation to the MCWC. This class is open to the public — men are welcome too. Class size is limited.

For information or to sign up for the class, email Vera England at vaengland@verizon.net.
