Groovin’ in the Park series unveils its 2021 schedule

With the re-opening of the Deltaville Maritime Museum, Holly Point Market and the full 2021 Groovin’ in the Park music schedule arriving May 1, work is near completion in the waterfront park area, home of the Groovin’ series. A new set of platform steps leads to waterfront stage. These 24-inch deep steps will not only allow easier access, but  now allow chorale groups and choirs to be able to stand and sing in tiers at the front of the stage. It will also be perfect for family group photo opportunities at weddings and reunions. (Photo by Bill Powell)

Limited advance individual tickets and “member’s only” ticket packages are now on sale for the Deltaville Maritime Museum’s Groovin’ in the Park 2021 casual, outdoor concert series by phone, online and at Nauti Nell’s store in Deltaville. The warm weather and music will be here before you know it, so it’s time to grab your ticket savings early for the 2021 Groovin’ season.

The Groovin’ season will include masking, distancing, sanitizing and signage as required by the phase three regulations. Putting the audience, volunteers and staff’s health first, Groovin’ will continue these precautions for as long in the season as is prudent, erring to the side of caution.

Groovin’ in the Park is a “bring your own lawn chair and picnic” event. Hot food and cold beverages will be available. The gates will always be open one hour before the concerts for picnicking.

This year Groovin’ steps up with the addition of two very special performances!

On opening weekend, Saturday, May 1, Groovin’ presents its first  special performance and our first-ever country music artist. The Mike and Amy Aiken Band will take the stage from 5:30-8 p.m. bringing the sound of Nashville with a creek view. Check out Mike, Amy, their music and albums at www.mikeaikenmusic.com.

On July 24, Groovin’s second special performance, brings back the big band, Vegas-style performance of Good Shot Judy to the stage. If you haven’t had the pleasure yet, GSJ is a one-of-a kind. Check them out at goodshotjudy.com/. The Honeywind Bluegrass Boys or Stonesthrow open for GSJ at 5 p.m. This concert will be sponsored in part by Hawkins Boat Brokerage in Deltaville.

Due to increased expense and the loss of revenues from last season, the two special performance concerts will be $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Groovin’ is one of the Deltaville Maritime Park’s major fundraisers. The other five regular concerts will maintain the 2019 price, $10 in advance and $15/door. Remember, with restricted occupancy there is always the possibility of a sell-out this year so please get your tickets early. Tickets are available at the museum office, online or at Nauti Nell’s store in Deltaville.

The waterfront park, the Groovin’ venue, gets more user-friendly every year as organizers strive to improve this wonderful, natural facility. Improvements to the adjacent tea house bar service, lighting, and a platform step system to the stage are in the works for 2021. As always, there is plenty of convenient parking and drive through/drop off availability.

Members only can buy advance ticket packages for all seven shows right now. The members package, available only through 4 p.m. on May 1, saves $10 over advance sales prices, and $45 over the price at the door. Regular tickets can be used at any of the regular concerts. The two special performances will have their own unique tickets. We encourage everyone to take this perfect opportunity to join the museum with all the benefits of membership, take advantage of the members advance ticket package, and still save money. COVID-19 restrictions relaxation allows otherwise.

The wonderful sound and light system provided and meticulously operated by sound engineer Jan Williams will be back and ready to bring the music off the stage to you.
