The Virginia Writers Series, sponsored by the Friends of Belle Isle, will continue from 2-4 p.m. April 12, at Belle Isle State Park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster. The featured writer will be Cindy L. Freeman.
Described as a “literary late bloomer,” Freeman didn’t get around to writing her first novel until after retiring from a long career in music education and music ministry, but she’s been writing poems, stories and journal entries since youth. Along with being a novelist, she also is a blogger, award-winning essayist and an editor for High Tide Publications.
“I’ve worn many hats in my career, but ‘author’ is one of my favorites,” said Freeman. “I write about women who find the strength to overcome adversity. My novels tackle challenging social issues like child abuse, domestic abuse, substance abuse, and homelessness. But really my novels are about hope, help and healing.”
The program fee is $10 per person, payable by cash or check to the Friends of Belle Isle, and includes coffee, tea and light refreshments.
Doors will open at 2 p.m. The lecture will begin at 2:30 p.m. followed by time with the author.
