The Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park in Deltaville occupy a site cherished by many area residents for its popular “Groovin’ in the Park” summer outdoor music series. This year’s season had been expected to open with a concert at its usual first Saturday in May time, but the concert was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. The concert will be rescheduled though and it will likely be on the first Saturday after the current COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. The park has invited “Elana Lisa and the Hot Mess” to perform.
“Elana and the band are raring to play for us,” said park spokesman Bill Powell. “For a nice video of the group you can watch at home, go to its Facebook page, click videos and pick the promo video. Hot, hot, hot! Other great vids are there too.
“The Maritime Park wants all of its members and friends to please, please, practice social distancing, limit travel, wear face masks in public and follow all other guidelines to stay safe and well. I know we all are looking forward to us getting together again.”
As the park members’ advance discount ticket package availability is normally over at the season’s first concert, organizers are extending the discount offer until the first concert of the season.
“Every effort is being made to maintain the full seven-concert season by using rescheduling,” Powell said. “We are working with the artists to make this happen. The Maritime Park will follow all governmental policies to keep our people safe as directed.”
Currently, the museum itself is closed until the current restrictions are lifted. The museum’s staff is working remotely to monitor and answer messages and keep the website current.
The adjacent, beautiful 30-plus acre Holly Point Nature Park is still open dawn to dusk for a place for folks to get out of the house and outside in the fresh air. It features a nature trail that meanders through a scenic, wooded area near Jackson Creek. “We are following the new tightened restrictions by asking everyone to limit their use (of the park) to walking, jogging, exercising and hiking,” Powell said. “We also ask that any of you who come out to please follow required distancing (six feet or more) and group limit protocols (10 or fewer) while in the park. Make sure you respect the personal space of others using the park. Outside bathrooms are closed, but there is a portable toilet in the waterfront park.”
Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park are part of a volunteer, all-donation, nonprofit organization. The sites’s address is 287 Jackson Creek Road in Deltaville. To get to the museum and park, follow General Puller Highway (Route 33) through Deltaville toward Stingray Point and turn right across from the Citgo gas station. The park is open dawn to dusk daily. The museum encourages boat and maritime equipment donations to help fund its operations.
