5 Things to do in Warsaw…

Geographically‭, ‬Warsaw is the center of it all in the Northern Neck‭. ‬With easy access to major roadways‭, ‬its location makes it ideal for day trips during your stay in Richmond County or elsewhere in The Neck‭. ‬The town also boasts easy access to the natural‭ ‬beauty of the Rappahannock River and a growing Main Street community that exemplifies small-town America and encourages a slower‭ ‬pace and sense of community‭. ‬

1. Stroll Down Main Street

Warsaw’s historic Main Street is a charming mix of retail and restaurants. As a result of an ongoing revitalization, older buildings have been given a new life and stand beside newer structures with a nod to the town’s past. Take your time browsing the many shops offering products you will not find in any mall or grab some lunch or a sweet treat for a break at Warsaw Town Park.

2. Experience Menokin

A trip to Menokin, 4037 Menokin Road, is so much more than learning about the home of Francis Lightfoot Lee. Start with a tour of the 18th century home of a Founding Father, signer of The Declaration of Independence and member of the prominent Lee family of Virginia. Although the national landmark has been severely damaged over time, preservationists and historians are dedicated to re-creating the home through The Glass House Project. Tour the grounds and learn of the people who have lived on the land for centuries. Explore hiking trails along old tobacco roads or rent a kayak to meander down Cat Point Creek for sightings of bald eagles and river otters or sounds of countless songbirds.

3. Shop the Warsaw Community Market

The Warsaw Community Market is held at the town park from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on second and fourth Saturdays, April through September. Choose from dozens of vendors selling fresh produce, flowers, prepared foods, arts and crafts.

4. Search The Enchanted Forest

You never know what or who you may find when you take a walk through The Enchanted Forest. The 11-acre wooded space features a collection of characters, animals and objects carved and painted onto the trees by Tom Rhodes. Kids will enjoy the mile-long scavenger hunt to find nearly 100 of their favorites from books and movies, from Harry Potter to Shrek. The trailhead at The Bounds is easy to find and includes ample parking. If you have time, the Richmond County Museum is a short walk next door  in the county’s former jail built in 1872. The Forest and Bounds are open dawn to dusk.

5. Visit Warsaw Town Park

Picnic tables and a covered pavilion are a great place to unwind with the entire family. There’s even a fenced in dog park. Special events like morning yoga or family movie night are regularly held. Make sure you get your picture taken in front of the town’s LOVEwork installation or Warsaw mural before you leave. Restroom facilities and parking. Open dawn to dusk.
